The Dr. Grordbort’s Exceptional Exhibition
April 10, 2011 to August 21, 2011
The Maison d’Ailleurs presents the work of author, artist and graphic designer, Greg Broadmore (New Zealand) employed by a company specializing in special effects in movies : Weta Workshop (The Lord of the rings, District 9, Avatar, …). Exclusivity should be exercised : it is both the first presentation of this artist and the first opening of a Weta Shop – including number of products – in Europe.
The Universe of Dr. Grordbort’s depicts a retro-future, a kind of future where steam technology mechanical and ethereal atomic alongside the pith helmet, baggy pants and a moustache to the former. The character played by the explorer Lord Cosckswain – vitriol tribute of Raiders of the popular literature of the late nineteenth century – travelling the solar system to quench his thirst for accomplishments and discoveries. Macho and rude enough, destroying fauna and flora of the planet Venus moves subatomic wave, and proud to be photographed with one foot on the corpse of an endangered animal, Lord Cosckswain defines itself modestly as a gentleman anthropologist. Snapshots can a priori appear rude, even distasteful, but they become biting and subtle as they condemn their own kind caricature: the work done and sneer suggests.
