The robot is one of the most famous tropes of our imagination. And because we all have a mental image of those metallic beings – but seldom take time to think about their implicit and symbolic meaning – the Maison d’Ailleurs has decided to tackle this topic through the magnifying glass of “metaphor”. Metaphor is indeed a key concept in the path ahead, where you will be able to rediscover the portraits of humanity such as they were sketched by the robots!
More specifically, the exhibition “Portrait-Robot” considers robots as images; the images of both industrial and technological models invented by mankind to characterise itself. In that regard, the exhibition focuses on the process behind our creation of the metallic faces: when we create images – or stories – of robots, we shed light on the limitations of the terms that define ourselves. Thus, robotic iconography allows the reinvention of our humanity.
