16.11.2014 – 31.05.2015
With the consent of LEGO®, Warner Bros. and Disney groups, the “Alphabrick” exhibition explores the means of construction of science fiction’s and fantasy’s universes such as the “Cthulhu Mythos”
(H. P. Lovecraft), Star Wars (George Lucas), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit (J. R. R. Tolkien). These means of construction – “bricks” that come originally from various medias – are now undergoing a revival thanks to the toy industry, particularly to the LEGO® playsets.
The perspective is innovative: in creating a dialogue between John Howe’s and Benjamin Carré’s artworks, LEGO® playsets and objects that come from several patrimonial collections, the Maison d’Ailleurs (House of Elsewhere) wishes to create a singular reflection on contemporary mythologies and to remind us that if some fictional universes seem more suitable to the multiplication of different “bricks”, it is because these universes rest upon our need to remain in the fictions we like.
