Before Science Fiction

The Jules Verne Space presents the public with many books and old documents picturing Jules Verne, his vision of the world and his literary context (from old utopia to 1940’s science fiction). It is a good way to discover the many aspects of a man who was not only a great traveller but also a respected play-writer and, above all, one of the most often translated authors in the world.

In addition to books and magazines, the Jules Verne Space also offers many original ways to go on an imaginary journey: models of extraordinary vehicles, an interactive terminal introducing the new kinds of extraordinary travels and the “poster-o-tron”, an amazing automatic poster display.

The second part of the exhibition explores the universe of pulp magazines. Through this editorial phenomenon and unique aesthetic, Anglo-Saxon science fiction perpetuates Jules Verne’s discourse.
