Andrew Watts Collection
Pictorial collection
2010
Gathered by a private amateur, this collection of pictures contains about 1’400 drawings, caricatures, press clippings, “out-of-texts” and advertising inserts, etc., that come from the English popular, literary or commercial press but also from the Japanese and French newspapers.
A considerable amount of this data dates back to the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century. These illustrations transcribe perfectly the fin-de-siècle imagination turned toward the greatness and decay of a future shaped by science and technology.
