In order to continue its vulgarization work on the science fiction role in our everyday life, the Maison d’Ailleurs decided to publish short essays – “Les Collections de la Maison d’Ailleurs” – that offer several perspectives on the exhibition’s main theme that one can see at a particular moment, and an exceptional iconographic selection.
Available from November 15, 2014, the third issue of this collection focuses on the Star Wars thematic and looks at its ramifications through several derivatives. With the purpose of understanding how fiction’s powers are used – and “played” (also on a serious level) – in the process of expanding the world created by George Lucas, the author of this book analyzes a type of artifact usually ignored by film studies: toys. Considered not only as mere representations, but as important compounds of a fictional universe, Kenner action figures and LEGO® bricks are reviewed by a theorist of medias.
